Meet our landscape designer: David Montgomery

Qualifications: 

  • 30+ years of experience in custom landscape design (including pivotal work on Anakeesta in Gatlinburg) 

  • Horticulture degree from Tennessee Tech University 

  • 25 years of experience teaching classes at a local Knoxville university in Landscape Design, Hardscaping, Pruning, and more

  • Humble, driven, and passionate about landscaping

We won’t be shy about pointing out how special David is. No one can possibly know everything about the craft, but David comes pretty doggone close, with 30+ years of experience! 

With David, you’ll have an exceptionally talented designer, maybe even the best in Knoxville, who will create a custom landscape design plan for your home. Plus, you’ll have the support of our apprentice designer, Samantha, who has a horticulture degree from the University of Tennessee with 10+ years of landscaping experience. 

Our Junior Designer, Samantha, is learning design from David by overseeing some of the installations of his designs. She’s also transferring David’s “old school” hand-crafted design plans into 3D CAD designs for better visualization for our customers.

We are so very fortunate to have David and Samantha on the Green Brothers team. Their experience, capabilities, and positive attitude contribute to the camaraderie we have at Green Brothers and help serve our customers at the highest level.

What services are included in a custom landscape design?

  • We provide scaled 2D drawings of the design areas, or in some cases, a 3D CAD design for enhanced visualization. These drawings give you an idea of what the area will look like once complete.

  • Samantha provides plant selections with an in-depth knowledge of each plant. Critical selections include the artful layout of each plant bed along with a careful placement of each plant and landscape feature. Consideration is always given to the climate zone and mature size of each plant so that your plants will thrive in the East TN climate and won’t outgrow the space they're designed to fit.

  • Hardscape designs (patios, walkways, retaining walls, kitchens, firepits, fireplaces, seating walls, edging, masonry, flagstone, boulders, and more…) will fit in functionally and aesthetically with your lifestyle, home architecture, and property's topography.

  • These materials can include pavers (concrete and clay), manufactured wall block and edging, natural stone, masonry, synthetic turf, metal edging, and more.

  • We’ll provide the relocation or removal of existing plants (if applicable).

  • Excavation is considered a tradecraft at Green Brothers, sculpting your grounds to complement the aesthetics of your custom landscape design and ensuring proper drainage.

  • Drainage is an aspect of most of our projects. The professional landscaper must deal with stormwater runoff. This doesn’t have to be expensive but it can cost you a lot if it’s not properly addressed.

  • We offer irrigation solutions and outdoor lighting to keep your custom landscape design healthy and visible.
